Couple of years back I was in Tallinn , Estonia for work in late November and if you been to that part of Europe, you know their Christmas market is legendary. One night we were out to enjoy the market , it was beautiful but extremely cold and then it started snowing all of a sudden! I was freezing my butt off then my friends got me a glass of glogg; it was so delicious, it instantly warmed me up and ever since then, I make it a point to make this at Christmas !!

The legend goes that King Gustav I Vasa of Sweden loved a warm drink made from German wine, sugar and spices. His drink was later named “glödgag vin,” meaning “glowing-hot wine,” a name which was then shortened to glögg” in the later 1800’s

Mulled wine is for sure a show-stopping recipe, it’s actually really easy to make! All you need to do is pick your favorite red wine

Here is my take on traditional glogg

* ½ c sugar or maple syrup
* 1 bottle red wine, I used Pinot noir brightcellars silevrscape
* 1 c Port wine
* 1 c cranberry juice ( unsweetened)
* 1 c ginger brandy
* 1/2 cup raisin
* 1 c blanched almonds (optional)
* Peel of ½ orange
* 2 slices fresh ginger, peeled
* 10 cardamom pods, crushed
* 4 5 cinnamon sticks
* Handful of whole cloves
* Handful of star anis
* 3 bag of mint juniper tea (i used tazo)
* 1 cup cranberry
* Apple , orange thinly slice

1. Heat sugar or maple syrup and cranberry juice in a large saucepan till it dissolve
3. Add liquor, raisins, and almonds. Tie the spices and peel in a square of cheesecloth and place into the mixture. And add the tea bag
5. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat until it begins to steam (do not let it boil), 30-40 min. Remove the tea bag after 5 to 7 min
7. Taste and add more maple syrup or sugar if like,
8. Remove the spices, in big carafe add cranberry and fruit slices and Some cinnamon stick and pour the warm glogg over it
