Mangshor jhol (thin mutton curry )
Growing up this was epitome of my Sunday Mangshor jhol with chunky pieces of potato , honesty till now I prefer the potatoes more than the meat , growing up every Sunday this was for lunch with steaming rice , green chilli and lime , with very few exceptions, and after that a long nap and Bengali are happy !!
It is not an unknown fact that no recipe is authentic. There are basic guidelines of a dish and then from the chef to the home cook, each has its own variation, secrets of the trade and when the recipe is passed on, more often than not, the smart clever cooks never pass on the complete recipe. Every Bengali household has its own recipe of mangshor jhol. Some passed on from generation after generation with small tweaks at each level of passing on, some remained intact without a scratch in the process!!
Now living in USA for many many years I tried to hold on to my moms recipe which I never learn from her but basically recreate the dish from the memory of taste !! So this dish is very close to my heart and soul !!
