Red wine poached pears
a classic French dessert and. It’s so easy to make , extremely flavorful and very elegant .

½ cup sugar or 1/2 cup honey

1 large piece of orange peel

8 – 10 whole cloves

Couple of sprig of Rosemary

Handful of star anise

2 cups red wine I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot or any medium body wine

½ cup orange juice


2 tsp vanilla extract


3 – 6 medium sized bosco pears

* Place all the ingredients (except pears) in a saucepan. 

* Bring the red wine to a simmer while stirring to dissolve the sugar or honey 

* Peel the pears 
Lower the peeled pears into the poaching liquid.

* Let the pears poach in the liquid on medium-low heat for 20 – 25 minutes,. 

* When the pears have been poached remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the pears to cool 


* take the pears out Heat the remaining liquid in the saucepan, and bring it to a simmer. Simmer for a few minutes until the liquid thickens slightly . 

* Serve the pears on a serving plate, and brush them a little with the syrup , you serve this with ice cream or whipped cream
